Random Rant: Mac Computers

It’s been a while since my last post. I rarely say anything now… Mostly follow and reblog. I’ve been thinking about Macs, and why everyone design related use them. As a primarily Windows user I see the appeal in its usability. The Mac OS seems to be designed with ease and streamlining the user’s interaction. From what I’ve seen, its easier to install and delete programs, navigation through folders is intuitive, and changing settings is easy.

That being said, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of control in terms of customization and allowing the user to do whatever the hell he wants to do. To put it bluntly, the Mac OS is restrictive. From what I’ve done on a Mac, it’s really hard to open up its guts and mess around. I’ve found it difficult to navigate to the core files, and a lot of them are hidden. So I’m guessing the reason its so intuitive and easy to use is that the Mac OS doesn’t let users see the core, which prevents users from messing up the computer and totally fucking it up.

However, I’m aware of my own bias. Being taught with Windows and growing up with a Windows computer has made Microsoft’s OS easier for me. But its not just that. In Windows, it seems easier to modify and change program settings with your own custom settings. If you’re the admin the whole hard drive is open for you. The guts and organs of the computer are all out there to do with it as you please. You can make your UI completely unique, or edit game settings to your liking via notepad.

But ultimately there is only one reason for me to choose Windows. Its not as streamlined and user-friendly. It has more viruses. It’s not as visually pleasing as Mac. However there’s always the reason, that one resounding reason I will always choose Windows over Mac. Windows has more games.
